Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site owner about how the site is being used.

When you visit kinderpedia.tech or use the Kinderpedia platform, we may place cookies on your device or read cookies already stored there. This Cookie Policy explains which cookies we use, what each of them does, and how you can control your cookie preferences.

This Cookie Policy applies to the kinderpedia.tech website and the Kinderpedia web application. It does not apply to the Kinderpedia mobile applications (iOS and Android), which store data locally on your device using platform-native storage mechanisms rather than browser cookies. Information about data stored by the mobile apps is described in our Privacy Policy.

By continuing to use kinderpedia.tech after being shown the cookie consent banner, you consent to the placement of non-essential cookies as described in this policy. You may withdraw consent or change your preferences at any time using the methods described in Section 5.

2. Categories of Cookies We Use

We group cookies into four categories based on their purpose: Strictly Necessary, Functional, Analytics, and Marketing. We use only Strictly Necessary and Functional cookies on this site. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

Strictly necessary cookies are required for the website and platform to function. They enable core features such as authentication, security, and payment processing. These cookies cannot be disabled without breaking the site's core functionality. We do not ask for your consent to place strictly necessary cookies, as they are required to provide the service you have requested.

Cookie Name Provider Purpose Expiry
kp_session kinderpedia.tech Authenticated user session token. Maintains your login state across page loads. Contains a cryptographic reference only; no personal data is stored in the cookie value itself. Session (deleted when browser closes) or 30 days if "Remember me" is selected
kp_csrf kinderpedia.tech Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) protection token. Validates that form submissions and API requests originate from the Kinderpedia application rather than a third-party site. Required for all authenticated actions. Session
kp_locale kinderpedia.tech Stores the user's selected language and date format settings. Required to display the interface in the correct language after login. 1 year
__stripe_mid Stripe, Inc. Fraud prevention for payment processing. Set by Stripe when the payment form is loaded. Used by Stripe to assess the risk of a transaction and comply with payment card industry security requirements. 1 year
__stripe_sid Stripe, Inc. Session identifier for Stripe's payment processing and fraud prevention system. Linked to the payment session, not to your Kinderpedia account. 30 minutes

2.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies enhance your experience by remembering choices you have made and preferences you have set. The platform works without these cookies, but some features will revert to defaults rather than remembering your settings. These cookies are placed with your consent.

Cookie Name Provider Purpose Expiry
kp_dashboard_prefs kinderpedia.tech Stores dashboard layout preferences — which modules are expanded or collapsed, column ordering in data tables, and default filter settings. Allows the dashboard to load in the configuration the user last set without requiring re-configuration each session. 90 days
kp_report_filters kinderpedia.tech Remembers the last-used filter settings for attendance, grade, and behavioral reports (date range, class group, student filter). Saves re-entering filters that are frequently re-used. 30 days
kp_notification_dismissed kinderpedia.tech Records which in-platform notification banners (such as new feature announcements or required action prompts) the user has dismissed. Prevents the same notification from appearing on every page load after dismissal. 30 days
kp_cookie_consent kinderpedia.tech Records your cookie consent decision (accepted or declined) and the date it was made. Prevents the cookie consent banner from appearing on every page visit once you have made a choice. This cookie is set regardless of your consent decision; it is strictly necessary for the consent management function to work correctly. 12 months

2.3 Analytics Cookies

Kinderpedia does not currently use third-party analytics cookies on kinderpedia.tech. We collect aggregate server-side analytics (page views, visit duration, device type) from our web hosting infrastructure without placing additional cookies on your device. This aggregate data does not identify individual visitors and is used solely to understand how the site is used in order to improve it.

If we introduce third-party analytics tools in the future, we will update this Cookie Policy accordingly and will obtain consent through the cookie banner before placing analytics cookies.

2.4 Marketing Cookies

Kinderpedia does not use marketing, advertising, or tracking cookies on kinderpedia.tech. We do not share browsing data with advertising networks, do not track users across other websites, and do not use cookies to build advertising profiles. If you see advertising for Kinderpedia on other platforms, it is not based on cookies placed by kinderpedia.tech.

3. Cookies Placed by Third-Party Content

Kinderpedia does not embed third-party content such as YouTube videos, social media widgets, or advertising frames on kinderpedia.tech that would result in cookies from those third parties being placed on your device. If third-party content is introduced in the future, this policy will be updated.

The payment form on Kinderpedia uses Stripe's JavaScript library (stripe.js), which is loaded from Stripe's domain. Stripe places the cookies described in Section 2.1 (strictly necessary for payment security) when the payment form is present on the page. Stripe's cookie policy and privacy policy are available at stripe.com/privacy.

4. Cookie Duration and Types

Cookies fall into two categories by duration:

Session cookies: These are temporary cookies that exist only while your browser is open and are deleted automatically when you close your browser. Session cookies are used for the authentication session token (kp_session without "Remember me") and the CSRF token (kp_csrf).

Persistent cookies: These cookies remain on your device after your browser is closed, until they expire or are manually deleted. Persistent cookies are used for language preferences, dashboard settings, consent records, and payment security functions. The expiry period for each persistent cookie is listed in the tables in Section 2.

Cookies also differ by origin:

First-party cookies: Cookies set by kinderpedia.tech directly. All cookies listed under kp_ prefixes above are first-party cookies.

Third-party cookies: Cookies set by a domain other than kinderpedia.tech. Stripe sets the __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid cookies from the stripe.com domain when the payment form is loaded.

5. How to Manage Your Cookie Preferences

5.1 Kinderpedia Cookie Banner

When you first visit kinderpedia.tech, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the screen. You may accept or decline non-essential cookies through this banner. If you decline, only strictly necessary cookies will be placed.

Your consent decision is stored in the kp_cookie_consent cookie. To change your decision, you can clear this cookie through your browser settings (see Section 5.2), which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit.

5.2 Browser-Level Cookie Controls

All major web browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete cookies through their settings. The specific location of these settings varies by browser and browser version. The following links provide guidance for the most commonly used browsers:

Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. You can block all cookies, block third-party cookies, or manage cookies by site. Chrome also allows you to view and delete individual cookies.

Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. Firefox provides options to block all cookies, use enhanced tracking protection, or manage exceptions per site.

Apple Safari (macOS): Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data. Safari allows you to block all cookies or remove cookies from specific sites.

Apple Safari (iOS): Settings → Safari → Block All Cookies. Note that this applies across all websites, not only kinderpedia.tech.

Microsoft Edge: Settings → Site permissions → Cookies and site data. Edge supports blocking third-party cookies and managing cookies per site.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging into the Kinderpedia platform. If you need to use the platform without cookies, this is not currently possible as authentication requires the session cookie.

5.3 Opt-Out of Stripe Cookies

Stripe's payment security cookies are strictly necessary when the payment form is being used. They cannot be opted out of while a payment transaction is being processed. Stripe does not use these cookies for advertising purposes. For information about Stripe's data practices, see stripe.com/privacy.

6. Cookies and Children's Data

The Kinderpedia platform processes data about children, but children do not directly interact with the platform in a way that involves cookie-based tracking. Parent accounts are held by adults. Student-facing features in the platform (where available to students aged 16 or above) are subject to the same cookie controls as all other user accounts. We do not use cookies to build profiles of or target advertising to individuals identified as being under the age of 16.

7. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use or in applicable data protection law. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy when changes are made. Material changes — such as introducing new categories of cookies that require consent — will be communicated via the cookie banner on the site, requiring a fresh consent decision.
